Lines Tutorial by Nyyq Lines Tutorial by Nyyq
It's more of a demo than a tutorial really...

I'm sorry for my handwriting haha, I usually write in cursive so it's a little awkward in print....but at the same time I was too lazy to open up Gimp to type LOL;;

I hope this answers those questions! Feel free to ask if you got any more.

And I'm sorry to disappoint anyone, really I don't to anything special with my lines. uvu;

Hahah, do you think you could be a little less awesome please? You're showing the rest of us up XD You work well with any inking method, it seems. Very cool : ) Thanks for the tutorial hun!

:D Its nice to see other artists tools of the trade and their own technique. Honestly, its given me more knowledge for myself.

I use Faber Castell manga markers (Really effin expensive, I've got gift works that need done and I cant color em till I get extra money and get to the city nearby with one of the few art stores in the area) and honestly, using traditional fountain pens with inks might be better on the cost end.

Is that manga ink water resistant? Because I run around with my little bag of dreams when I draw (usually between jobs or when I have a down moment) I need something that if it gets a little rain or wet won't run.

my setting are 8 smoothing and 31% minimal size, and 100 density.

I like your linearts more though I'll practice a little with your settings.

:iconnyyq:
Nyyq Featured By Owner Jun 3, 2011
ohohooooo higher minimum size is definitely another fun factor. <33
The only reason I use the smoothing at lower numbers is because I feel like at higher numbers, it loses the "natural rythm" of your hand movements...I don't eve know how to explain XDD

You most likely have a much better pulse than me, or I got used to some smoothing.

This is quite interesting, I've actually been looking for preferences of which brand to get for ink nibs.
..although I have a pretty cheaply made calligraphy pen, not sure if that makes any difference at all haha

I'll have to use these settings sometime for SAI also. thank you for making this, it's very helpful!

lol naw I actually have about 4 other calligraphy pen holders, all plastic and...very cheap. XD It's nice to have multiple pens so you can switch the nib type you are using without having to wash the pen you were using previously. I'm glad it was helpful, good luck on your nib hunt!

Oh gosh, I'm still rather a beginner so I completely understand. XD At first I found a personal blog of one of my favourite manga artists and just got what they recommended, then after, kept what I found useful for myself. I hope you find which pens are comfortable to you! <3

I do have to ask, for the first one, when you selected "Circular"--I don't have that option.. Is it custom, or..?

:iconnyyq:
Nyyq Featured By Owner Jun 3, 2011
I'm glad it does! ^^

Oh, that's odd; for me it was listed in the default brushes list. Do you maybe have one called "round"? Or perhaps "Fine Round"? They're practically the same function as the "circular" brush as long as you keep the density at 90~100.

No, I have "Spread" "Spread and Noise" "Bristle" and "Flat Bristle" No round.. though I've noticed my Sai is translated differently than yours, so maybe it is infact there but under one of those names.. hm.

Oh. o<o Perhaps it's a difference in the program version (unless you mean it is in another language xD ).
Well if it is of any help, here's what the full list on my SAI looks like, you might get lucky any they are in the same sequence? ( I removed all of my custom brushes so that should all be defaults )

I meant it had a different english translation, or something. Or program version, though I have the latest one from the official site! I think I found what it is-- Flat Bristle seems to look relatively the same and gives the same effect, and it's fourth down on the list, not counting (none)

Thank you for the screenshot and your time! ovo I really appreciate it.
